Maybe it has to do with the variety I selected? I’ll be growing a different variety to try for summer harvest called Galilee. I’ll try a couple of different ways of germinating them, just to see if it makes any type of difference – hopefully, I have better luck with these.Margarethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15949946977793864054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2884216770926932676.post-12694729970425804172014-05-08T08:39:56.496-04:002014-05-08T08:39:56.496-04:00We’ll see how well my peas do. But even if they do really well, who’s to say that it wasn’t because of some other factor like the weather or my soil amendments (which I’ve changed from last year).

I’ll be starting another round of spinach soon – a variety that is supposed to stand up to the summer heat. I’m going to be trying a couple of other ways of germinating - hopefully I’ll be more successful this time!

I really hope the rains lets up for you soon - it’s so frustrating when the weather does not co-operate with our gardening plans, isn’t it?Margarethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15949946977793864054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2884216770926932676.post-58641752623148823872014-05-07T23:17:06.129-04:002014-05-07T23:17:06.129-04:00How old are your spinach seeds? I just soak them for 5 minutes then place them in between a folded damp paper towel, which is then sealed inside a plastic sandwich bag. Left at room temperature, they sprout very quickly but at varying rates so I sow them over several days. Maybe I could do better, but I'm happy and figure it's one less thing I have to do. It hasn't done a thing but rain all week---I'm falling more and more behind. I don't mind a cool growing season, but the rain has to stop at some point, doesn't it??????
I've always had poor germination on spinach. It was interesting for me to read about your "trials" on different sowing methods.Suehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10122524042294993949noreply@blogger.com
